Reminder: Jan 7 ARCC Meeting at 7:30pm

As 2025 closes we now need to look forward to a busy 2026 for the Alexandria GOP. In the first order of business, the 2024-2026 term officially comes to an end in early 2026, requiring the Committee to elect new officers and for local Republicans to rejoin as members for the 2026-2028 term. As such, I would like to announce that after much thought and prayer I’ve decided to not seek another term as chairman. I want to thank everyone for their support, especially those who served as officers, including Terri, Linda, Broderick, and Chris M.

For a host of reasons, not the least of which include a potential special election in the first half of the year, I would like to reconstitute the ARCC for the 2026-2028 term under a more accelerated timeline than in the recent past. I have appointed Terri Hauser, Bruce Brown, and Chris Marston to the Rules Committee. More information will be forthcoming.

Key Dates:
January 7 at 7:30pm: ARCC Monthly Meeting at Minnie Howard.
February 14: George Washington Birthday Parade. ARCC plans to participate and will be looking for volunteers to march in the event
March 7: St Patrick’s Day Parade. ARCC will also be looking for volunteers for this parade
March: ARCC reconstitutes for 2026-2028 term. Key dates will be announced at the Jan 7 ARCC meeting
Early Spring: Potential special election for redistricting
Upcoming Elections

2026 is another important election year in Virginia. We will likely have a special election in the early Spring (probably April) to amend the Virginia Constitution to allow for a partisan redraw of Virginia’s congressional boundaries in 2026. The redistricting, if passed, could put as many as four of Republican Congressional seats in jeopardy. We also have an election for the US Senate seat held by Mark Warner and the 8th District House seat held by Don Beyer. The special election would probably push the primaries for these seats out into the summer.

2027 will be an important election year at the local level, giving Republicans the best opportunity in years to end one party rule in Alexandria. If you are interested in running for one of the below seats or helping out on one of the campaigns, please reach out at chair@alexgop.org. Races include:
Virginia State Senate (District 39)
Virginia House of Delegates (Districts 3, 4, and 5 representing different parts of Alexandria)
Clerk of Court
Alexandria Mayor
Members of City Council (6 seats)
School Board (3 seats per School District A, B, and C)

December 16 Holiday Party
We had a terrific evening at the annual ARCC Holiday Party, which we held this year at the MacMillian Spirit House. More than 60 people attended, along with two candidates for US Senate, Kim Farington and David Williams.
